Gifts Idea

It’s the end of the year, most of us will be busy wrapping up 2011, slow down and clearing our leaves. It’s also time to do a bit/serious reflection (depending on your situation) and also making little plans to move on. It’s also the time of the year where we will see the increase rate of wedding dinners, annual dinners, end of the year parties etc… especially with 11.11.2011 just 3 days away I believe wedding bells will be sound at every corner.
I have an upcoming wedding dinner in 2 weeks time, instead of the traditional “Ang Pow” for the couple, I will be giving the couple this:

Mr. & Mrs. Moo, the inseparable couple.

Mr. Mrs. Moo will be an ideal gift for the perfect couple. The pair can serve as a decorative item in the new couple’s bedroom and doubled as a pillow, a sweet pillow to lay down their heads after the hustle and bustle of the wedding preparation. Well the wedding is but a ceremony to mark the starting point of the journey of marriage, Mr. & Mrs. Moo can serve as a reminder that it takes two to make a marriage works, I mean real hard labour of love. I am a strong advocate that we need to personalize the gifts to our loved ones, to compliment the gift, a personal hand written message taken from 1 Corinthian 13:4-8 will be bundled with the gift, put the message into a red packet! Voila the perfect gift is ready for the happy couple! I wish I could be married again (to the same man of course!).

Oh yeah….. almost forgotten… if you are interested, please contact Ms. Joanne for a special discount at the following:

Our 1st Overnight Camping Trip

Last weekend, together with 2 other families we went for our first overnight camping trip. The husbands were responsible on the camp site (somewhere in Gertak Sanggul) while the wives prepared food (barbeque chicken, maggi instant noodle, fried eggs, baked beans, bread, salad, snacks.....) and were put in-charge of miscellaneous arrangement. So literally we built tents, barbequed our dinner, had can food for breakfast and overnight by the beach and yeah we nearly moved half of our house over, we were quite surprised as we were well equipped with portable stove, pans, toilet rolls, mosquito repellent, “weapons” (just in case we have bad company), dish washer detergent, tiffin carriers………….. the list goes on. It was a good experience for the girls and they loved every bit of it except for the sleeping part where they have to sleep on the hard surface with no bolsters and soft toys accompanying them, but they were just too tired to complain and knocked down in less than 5 minutes. As predicted, hubby and I could hardly sleep that night (we miss our comfortable king size bed) and we re-charged by having longggg……… naps the following day (sign of aging). I encouraged those who have yet to try this out, please give it a try while your body still can take it (ha ha) and by the way, tents are easily obtained from hypermarkets and even my nine year old can put it up quite easily (can't believe it, right?). So now that we have tried camping, I wonder what's next?

Sweet slumber

I thank God that the girls still wanted me to sleep with them every night even now that they are already 9 and 7 respectively. The rule of the arrangement is - I can leave their room only after they fell asleep. Yesterday as usual after our devotion time together and prayer, we snugged into our blankets, turned the lights off and closed our eyes. To my surprise both girls came real close to me hugging me and claimed that they were both scared but at the same time they were happily giggling away. After checking out the reason for their fear, I realized they were just finding excuses to hug me and sort of to get my attention, anyway I was just so happy to be sandwiched in between the girls and three of us dozed of in no time. That's the reward of motherhood. As time flies I know one day they'll probably kick me out of their room to take control of their own privacy or when they outgrew and their two single beds can no longer accomodate three and sometimes four (+ daddy) of us. As for now I think I'll sleep with them as long as they want me to.

Have not been blogging lately, so this is a post wrapping up the highlights of our family:

I indeed had a terrific SAHM time, now I’m back to work and equally happy and fulfilled. God is good… all the time.

Michelle is 8! Time for her first cinema show!

Michelle's birthday falls on the 11th June 2002, last Friday marked her 8th year in our beloved family. To celebrate my "1st painful delivery experience" and "her joyous entrance into our family" I took a day off from work and we planned for something simple and fun for the girls, I could not possible left Emily out in the celebration as she is very much a part of this triangular love affair, daddy left us alone for some girls time.

I bought tickets for "Shrek Forever After" a couple of days back and it was their first cinema show. To ensure that all of us really get to enjoy the show, I logged into the internet, browsed the preview and sypnosis of the show, briefed the girls, gave them first hand information on what to expect, went through the list of dos and dont's in the cinema etc..... You see this mommy is really paranoid.

Below was an abstract of our conversation (after we were seated in our seats, we were the 2nd group to arrive).

Michelle: Wah... the TV is so big
Emily: Wah...very fun lor
Me: No need to whisper yet, the show haven't start, can talk as usual
Michelle & Emily: Oh OK
Emily: When is it going to start?
Michelle: Will there be a sudden loud noise when it starts?
Me: I'll tell you, don't worry (in mind I was like thinking - two "san pah poh" - katak di bawah tempurung leaving their village for the first time), blame it on mummy lar.
Me: Come take the popcorn...
Michelle & Emily: Mummy, later cannot talk ar? When I'm scared how?
Me: Hold on to mummy's hand
Emily: Wah later the characters jump out from the big TV.
Me: Don't be silly..
Michelle: Giggle... why so long haven't start?

After much FAQ (frequently asked questions), finally they are airing something on the "big TV", they commented that the next show to watch is Toy Story (because of the preview)... (there goes, they now know how to demand already), there were some "ooh ooh ah ah.." and finally the show began.

I would say all went well, of course mummy's arms were pulled on both side for certain scenes and the girls even shed tears at some point where there were touchy scenes, I was glad that all goes and end well. We all enjoyed the show and can't wait for the next one...

After the show we went for ice-cream, did some window shopping and headed home. We thank God for blessing Michelle for the past 8 years, we pray that Michelle will continue to grow into Christ likeness and in His words.

New Addition to The Family!

Yeap, confirmed! We have a new addition member to the family! Hmm..... we are proud to present to you our latest member to the Ling Family, slightly over a month old by the name of Spot. Yeap Spot is his name. Yeah, you got it right; Spot is the little puppy we adopted last Sunday from a colleague of mine. I've yet to confirm his breed but one thing for sure he's sure a cutie and for the past two days becoming "nottie" as well. Hubby and I were waken up at 4.00 something in the morning for two consecutive days, first day due to his "weaning" and this morning a 911 rescue call as he has landed himself in a 2 feet depth drain at our backyard. No turning point as we've already got ourselves into this sticky situation. The whole family unanimously agreed to the idea and had openly declared our commitment.

I'll upload some of his pictures later. At the mean time the sheltered backyard will be his home, we hope to toilet train him and set a routine for his businesses when he's more ready, at the mean time we simply enjoy his company (when we are not being awaken unnecessarily)and hope he will be manageable (if not how?? open for adoption??). The kids simply adored him and we thought it's a good time to teach them about ownership and responsibility (if that materialiized) else additional work for MIL, hubby and I. So Spotty, you better be good we hope to have you for a long time.

God is good..all the time

An update of what we've been doing over previous long weekend, on Friday I went out with a very dear friend for a movie cum catch up drink, thanks to hubby for taking care of the kids, on Saturday morning we went to our favourite beach at Sg. Batu to hang out and enjoy the nature, we decorated the sandy beach, took a stroll, collected some sea shells and took some pictures. Came evening I started on my long overdue "artwork" project where I decorated a wood piece to be hung in our garden, on the wood piece was written "God Bless Our Garden".
Well, indeed God has blessed our garden, above are some snapshots of our latest collection, from blossoms to vegetables and the last picture on bottom right went straight to our stomach (Japanese tauhu with home grown long beans). God is good..all the time.

Get away with Michelle

I had a getaway with Emily last April, coming end of the month I'm bringing Michelle for a 3 days, 2 nights trip to Langkawi organized by my college. Below is our meeting this morning:

Me: Let's have a meeting
Girls: Meeting??? Looked puzzled
Me: End of the month mummy going to Langkawi
Girls: Ar... protesting faces..
Me: But mummy can bring only one of you because mummy cannot take care of both for out of town trip... since mummy brought Emily to KL last April, this time mummy plan to bring Michelle
Michelle: Eyes big big, looked all excited
Emily: Sobbing and wiping tears already (poor girl)
Me : Listen first, I have not finish...
Me : The date mummy is going is from XX to XX, the same date that Sophia jeh jeh is getting married (Sophia is Emily's kindy teacher) and we were actually looking forward for her wedding cum dinner.
Me : Emily can wear your new polka dot dress, wear your new ring that daddy bought and have a good time, take photo with teacher and see teacher in wonderful wedding and evening gowns...
Emily : Stop crying and realized it was not a bad idea after all
Me: Emily get to spend special time with daddy alone, daddy will bring you out.
Emily : I want to go to Popular, buy coloring book and coloring pencils..
Me: Just ask daddy and daddy will do it (ha ha)
Me: So now Michelle still wants to follow?
Michelle: Want!
Me: You don't want to wear your new dress, wear your new ring and see the bride?
Michelle: I want to follow you!
Me: OK then, settle, meeting over.. calling daddy... we've settled the negotiation, now you do your part eh...
All: Very happy....

Our Saturdays..

Last Sat, I plan for an impromptu trip to the nearby beach with my girls, this time very odd because without the daddy. You must be wondering why eh.. because daddy went for training with uncle Richard to prepare themselves for the charity ride the next day.

Early in the morning after the usual errands, I woke the kids from their slumber, rushed them to finish their milk, packed a bag of stuff (some snacks, tools for sand castle building, water, a change of clothes) and off we go.

Since the entrance to the beach are without any proper tar road, I decided to drive daddy’s super road bully (the Prado), was drizzling on the way, I asked the kids to pray and when we reached God stopped the rain and we began our fun time.

Chose the perfect spot, spread the mat and we start building whatever that comes into our mind. Later, hand in hand we went down for a stroll, let the sea water washed our feet, collected memorable from mother nature and decided to make our move.

It’s great spending time with the girls… I’m already planning what to do this coming Sat and again without daddy because he will be away for a seminar….hope daddy is having a super duper time just like we would enjoy our super duper time together.

Games that we played..

Games that we played as a family:

1) Building blocks – we will build anything and hubby will ask each of us to tell a story out of the things that we have built, during this process creativity sips in and Emily is real good at this.

2) The stack – stack them up, remove each block at a time to increase the height, this test our patience, motor skill and create some tension during the course of the game.

3) Dance – hubby will play fast music and we will dance our heart out with really funny and ridiculous moves… (only for personal home viewing, lest we will be labeled as psycho!)

4) Act it out – hubby make it an effort to lead in weekly family devotion, tells a story and teaches biblical values, we take turns to act out the story, I always have to act the “bad/naughty” character…

5) Guess what am I? We think of an object/animal/type of food/anything and describe the item, the rest take turns to guess… builds imagination! The girls can’t wait to tell us the answers!!

6) Outdoor – Hubby loves nature and always bring us out either for a stroll, cycle, beach…anything outdoor

7) Memory card – We arrange the cards/patterns in a matrix, memorize them for a minute, flip the card over and find the pair by opening one card at a time, the girls always win… our brain cells are depleting each day… got to accept that!

8) Badminton – Mummy play with Michelle, daddy play with Emily, change partners and mummy play with daddy under the car park below our condominium.

9) Soup boiling – Mummy bring out all the ingredients, children clean them, mummy cuts them, children place them into the pot, add required portion of water and mummy takes care of the rest…

10) Colourful sticks – I played this more than 30 years ago, we group all the sticks in different colours together and hold them vertically, release our hands and let the sticks fall free, each takes turn to remove individual stick without touching other sticks nearby.

11) Scrabble – I end up forming all the words, Michelle and Emily arrange them on the board, Emily helps to draw the tiles, (we’ll improve on that later…)

12) Scrapping – this is new, we went out, find a spot and scrap whatever that is in front/around us….

How about you? What are the games that you play as a family?

Happy 52nd Birthday Malaysia!

In 3 days time we will be celebrating our 52nd Independence Day! So here wishing Malaysia Happy 52nd Birthday. My college is organizing an exhibition and invite staff and students to express themselves on what Independence/Merdeka means to them. So here I am squeezing creative juice in me and think of below poster. The colouring are contributed by the girls and I, designed my mommy and printed by daddy, so it's kind of a family affair here.

This is my prayer for my homeland:

Malaysians
Emerging as one, not differented by our
Race, colour of our skin, beliefs and social status,
Dedicated to our beloved land,
Encapsulated with love and respect for one another,
Knowing no barriers,
Achieving true 1Malaysia

To all Malaysian out there, Happy Merdeka and Happy Holidays!

Artist, busy at work...

Children playing together, knowing no barrier..

Children are colour blind, what about us? (picture courtesy of Petronas advertisement)

Last but not least, my precious "Siti and Aminah"

Ah... our final masterpiece

Movie Night

After 3 disturbed nights of sleep (Emily was down with fever but thank God she's back up already), 2 nights of sleep recovery and one long week of marathon revision with Michelle (for her 3rd term test), hubby and I are planning an impromptu date tonight. Our college recreation club is kind enough to organize a movie night free for its staff and spouse. So we are planning to go for a nice dinner after work, then the movie before head back home. I informed the kids of the plan and my plans for them yesterday(they could tag along with MIL to the cell group and play with other kids). Below was Michelle's comment yesterday night when hubby got back home from work:

Michelle: Wah daddy, tomorrow you are very fortunate eh? (She actually used the word "hao ming")
Daddy: Puzzled?? Why you say so?
Michelle : Get to go for a movie wor...
Daddy: Smiling....

We are so blessed to be able to go on dates occasionally, thanks to MIL..

The Fact of Life

I'm sure parents will be asked this question at least once over their lifetime as a parent: "Mummy/Daddy, where do babies come from, how are they made?" LOL, I remember my daughters asked me this some time back, well this is how I explained it:

"One day daddy and mummy love each other so much that we decided to make a baby, well to make a baby, you'll need this. Mummy has an egg and daddy has a worm, one day, daddy's worm swam into mummy's body and met the egg, the worm joined the egg and a baby is formed, mummy fed the baby through the food that mummy takes each day and as the days passed by, the baby grew and one fine day when the baby decided to come out, mummy experienced a big "stomachache" and when mummy pushed hard, out came the baby, so that is how mummy and daddy made both of you"

While explaining this I made some action, of course they giggled and was amazed by the storylah....

On another note... for those who are concerned and eagered to know the updates... I was tested.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... negative through a self pregnancy test yesterday. Still no sign of menses, dizzyness has improved slightly, no sigh of nausea but still with a gigantic appetite throughout the day. :D

God's blessings

After the miscarriage episode, it took us another year before I was confirmed pregnant again, this time I was extremely cautious, vowed not to take any kind of drugs (no matter how sick I am..)

A few weeks into the pregnancy I was spotting again... the whole cycle of what I went through a year ago came back to haunt me, will I lose my baby again this time? The fear of losing our flesh and blood is so great that I doubted if I ever can become a mother.

I went to see the gynae and again scheduled for jabs to stabilize the baby, in fact I need to go back on a weekly basis to receive the painful jabs, I told myself I'm willing to withstand whatever physical discomfort if only I can keep my baby intact in my womb for the full nine months. The medication really turned my body upside down, my appetite, my taste, my mood not to forget the painful butt after each jab. Hubby was quite helpless, all he can do was to assure that we are going to go through all that together (even though it's really me who sort of "suffering")...

God is good, after a few jabs and medication, the baby stabilized, no more bleeding and suddenly one morning I felt so good (no more vomitting and morning sickness), I soon realized we have survived our first trimester... yay!!

The second and third trimester went through smoothly, though I don't gain much weight (before 52kg, full term 62kg), I was as healthy as a horse. Finally on 11th June 2002, gave birth to our first daughter, Michelle after 10 hours of labour pain (admitted at 2.00am, delivered at 12.30 noon), she weighed a merely 2.56kg...

After a year, I was blessed with our second child, Emily, borned on 22nd Feb 2004 after 2.5 hours in pain, she weighed 3 kg....

Looking back, God has been so gracious to us, I stand in awe of Him. Stay tuned for the girls' pictures in my next post..

Our first trial..

Now that we have settled down and with some savings, we plan to have a baby the second year. We prayed about it and waited for God's timing. I have had history of UTI problem (urinary tract infection) and frequently on antibiotics. In Oct 2000, my menses was late by 2 weeks and after tested negative from a home pregnancy test and from a panel clinic I went for treatment for my UTI problem, due to the recurrence problem the doctor decided to give me a stronger antibiotic jab, confirmed that I was not pregnant, we agreed to the jab. Two weeks passed and still no sign of my menses... decided to visit a gynae to sort out the root cause... I was shocked to find out that I was 5 weeks pregnant!

I was happy and at the same time worried as I recalled the jab that I took two weeks back. I called the doctor that gave me the jab and he was quite worried too but since I'm certified pregnant, we will have to wait and see. At the mean time, hubby and I were excited over the thought of becoming parents...

A week passed and one morning I experienced some spotting, went to the gynae and he gave me a jab to stabilize the baby, the spotting stopped but recurred a few days later. An ultrasound scan revealed that the baby was not growing, heartbeat was not detected and I may need to go for a D&C... well, that was the most heartbroken news to hear as a new parent, hubby and I prayed and wept together... we went for a second opinion, went for another jab but unfortunately nothing can stop the work of nature, I had a miscarriage two days later...

I went through a period of depression and kept on thinking about my lost baby, is the baby a boy or a girl, blaming myself for the jab I've taken and went through an emotional cycle of ups and downs. I'm sure hubby's lost was just as deep as mine. I remember during those trial moments all we did were prayed and wept, prayed and wept, prayed and wept......

The sight of babies and pictures of them were enough to send me back to my cocoon and thought of my lost baby... but God is good, somehow time do heals. Hubby and I picked up from where we left and by God's grace we manage to deal with the lost. The way to deal with the lost is to face it and to talk about it. Whenever I heard about couples facing the same situation, I am compeled to approach and comfort them, as I comfort them I found myself comforted as well. The promises that God will not let us bear beyond what we can bear is so true and His grace is indeed sufficient for all of us.

As I recalled, I thank God for this experience for I know He wants to use us to comfort others in the same situation and as a result my relationship with hubby deepens.

In year 2000, we managed to travel quite a bit also... first to Perth (a second honeymoon) and Japan (a trip sponsored by my previous company).. enjoy the shots..
