Lessons from the garden

As I tender my garden, it opened up my eyes to lessons of life. Some blossoming plants are here for the day and gone tomorrow, it teaches me that life is fragile, we could have it today and lose it tomorrow, so we ought to live life to the fullest. Some plants failed to yield until you decided to give it a shock by trimming it completely bald, it may seems that you are doing harm than good until you realized that it thrives into a healthy plant. In certain life circumstances, we need to take risk and who knows the best is waiting for us out there.

Certain plants may look nice from the outside but as time goes by, you realized it is not growing comparing to the rest, I decided to uproot it and then I realized it was infected by hidden insects and the roots were rotten. Sometimes our life reach a stagnant point, there’s no growing, all we need is to do self-reflection and see if we are infected by urgent/unimportant things/sins in life, we will find new meaning of life once the stronghold has been identified and removed.

There was an occasion where the mother plant is withering and dying but as I looked deep underneath the soil, a new life has begun in the form of a little tiny child plant. Sometimes the old has to go to make way for the new, unless we died to our old-self , the new will not emerge.

I’m sure a lot of gardeners experienced this, the plant was clogged up with many unfriendly and sometimes deadly weeds…. We need to be mindful of the quiet weeds that may be growing in our life, failure to do that may choke us in the end.

Some plants just don’t need that extra watering, in fact most plants will die of over watered rather than under watered. That taught me that we should be careful of what we are indulging ourselves in or pampering our child with, what we thought were good actually works the other way round.

It’s amazing how much one can learned out of each situation, only if we care to think about it, so I hope the next time you worked on your garden, spend time in your hobby or merely doing those routine task… reflect on life lessons you can learned out of it. Have a great weekend ahead 

God is good..all the time

An update of what we've been doing over previous long weekend, on Friday I went out with a very dear friend for a movie cum catch up drink, thanks to hubby for taking care of the kids, on Saturday morning we went to our favourite beach at Sg. Batu to hang out and enjoy the nature, we decorated the sandy beach, took a stroll, collected some sea shells and took some pictures. Came evening I started on my long overdue "artwork" project where I decorated a wood piece to be hung in our garden, on the wood piece was written "God Bless Our Garden".
Well, indeed God has blessed our garden, above are some snapshots of our latest collection, from blossoms to vegetables and the last picture on bottom right went straight to our stomach (Japanese tauhu with home grown long beans). God is good..all the time.

Garden Assignment

Hubby gave me an assignment lately, the details as below:

Duration: 2-3 months?
Cost: Minimum
Specification: As below pictures
Scope of work: Backyard landscaping/gardening

To turn this (Before)

To something like this (After)

So that's why I'm so busy nowadays, gardener at work, must come up with a concept (theme), design and finally the physical work. Hubby in return is responsible for the fencing, lawn and whatever dirty work required... he he he

We are visualizing great family time at this area, the kids blowing bubble, playing badminton, me reading a book while sipping a nice cup of lavendar tea while hubby working on the weeds (ka ka ka).

My garden..

I spent time in the garden yesterday morning, uprooting "deceased" plants, repotting the "children" to their own pots, gave the old ones some uplifting and also relayout the whole family. Ta da the results...

Gardening also means contributing back to the environment for plants purify the air around us, greens also help to relax our tired eyes. I'm no expert here, learn basic gardening from my mom and I find tendering to the garden quite relaxing while allowing me to sort of "exercise" at the same time.

Let me introduce you to my garden species...

This is our very first plant and by now it should be our 10th generation (great, great, great....grandchild), we bought this during our honeymoon in Cameron Highlands in 1999.. I have 4 pots of them..

Syngonium podophyllum..originated from tropical America, I bought it from the nearby nursery.. one of the plant found to be infected by "worms" in the soil, let's see if I settled the problem..

Sansevieria... gave birth to a few "babies" which I uprooted and planted independently, time to live the nest...
Dieffenbachia... rob this from dad's collection.. the second generation... one friend thought they were artificial...

Not sure what is this called... a gift from my ex-colleague... it has since multiplied....

The "onion" flower, planted my MIL, since it's flowering, we decided not to eat it..

The purple pandan... MIL use this to cook with barley..... as a result we consumed "pink barley"..
This is suppose to be a bonsai plant... yeah I know it looks nothing like a bonsai but like curry leaves...

The "fan" plant..with its thorny branches...

Chinese like to plant this for prosperity and tie them with red ribbons.. this is a gift from a friend..
The yam plant... we have plenty of them..

Haworthia.... I did not do anything to this plant....

I'm not sure what is this called... have been living with us for quite some time through many generations..

Herbs... function is to cleanse blood, known to prevent arteries blockage, MIL took this with bread almost every morning...
Of course the famous pandan... MIL requested this from one of the neighbour..., since we feed it with rubbish enzyme, it has thrive into a fertile plant

The famous Aloe Vera plant.... a friend used to share with me that if you cut the flesh and mix it with honey, add some ice, it makes a delicious dessert... yet to try..
Well, that's about all........... I can plant so do you....you must be willing dirty up your hands only..

And yeah, something very peculiar happened, I have a pot of cactus related species and it has blooming flowers since last week, I remember hearing from old folks that if that happened, it means prosperous to the family or something good is going to happen wor... he he he let's wait and see..

My Garden (Updated with pics..)

Living in condominium did not give you much option in terms of gardening, so me and my gang make use of the little space of corridor that the condo-developer so graciously have given to us and turn it from the dull cement flooring to something more livelier and interesting. What started off with a few don't know what plants blossoms into two fish pond paradise, plenty of greeneries (yet to get their names), ubi-plants, variety of palms that stretched from my door step to my right neighbor (Boon) and all the way to my left neighbor (Chin). Thanks to my hubby for taking the garden shots. Thanks to my mom in-law who help keep them healthy and alive during weekdays whereas I'm more to a weekend so called gardener. So for those who are trapped in high rise buildings but love gardening, don't be discourage, with a little imagination and determination you can own a garden as well but mind you, make sure you have considerate and nice neighbors like mine who don't mine sharing their space with me... thanks to the Boons and Chins..... both of you make great neighbors....
